Men's Clothing Trends 2009 Part I

Not so long ago men’s clothing could be a little on the boring side, being limited to pretty much plain T-shirts, jeans, and suits. While these are still the staples of the man’s wardrobe, cut, as well as interesting fabrics, print and embellishments have helped to redefine men’s clothing, making it much more diverse.

Although it used to be confined to the office, the suit is now an essential fashion item for men, with quality and designer label a must. Slim-fitting suits are making a big splash. Pants might verge on drainpipe, and one-button jackets appear almost ‘tight’. While it has never entirely disappeared, the classic pinstripe has made a comeback recently. Pinstripe suits are usually dark gray or dark blue (almost black), though the latter is predominant at the moment. In plain-fabric suits you’ll still find these colors, but medium and light gray, white, and off-white are also important. As if made to compliment high-tech gadgets such, mobile phones, blackberries, and Rolex watches, suit fabrics now often have a slight sheen or synthetic look to them; so look to poly-cotton or polyester-wool mix.

Dark suits are still usually worn with a crisp white shirt, and tie. Lighter suits can be worn with a similar color shirt and tie, so that the entire outfit is monochromatic. High fashion ties will be made from textured fabric. And traditional weaves, such as bias stripes are now the big theme. However, designers, such as Donna Karan, will often use subdued colors, such as tones of brown, khaki, and dusty mauve, etc. Hugo Boss ties currently include an elaborate woven paisley in light earth tones, woven Japanese cherry blossom pattern, bias stripes, and watermark-type textures. Otherwise, metallic colors, grays, and black turn the bias stripe into an item for the sharp-dressed. Shoes, when worn with a suit, are also classic in shape, but employ patent leather, or leather embossed with a simple pattern, such as a repeated mini-spot.

Suits and ties are just one element of contemporary men’s clothing, of course. And, whether your interest is in suits, shoes, casual or outerwear, you can keep up to date with fashion, trends, and the latest in design and technology at StartingaClothingLine.com. When it comes to more casual clothing for men, elaborately printed shirts and T-shirts are an increasingly important element. Tattoo imagery is an essential element of the clothing design of such companies as Rebel8 Clothing and Ed Harvey. Printed flat silhouettes of everything from birds to cityscapes are big. Skulls and skull and cross bone motifs are also appearing on lots of designer company T-shirts and other clothing. Eccentric images or details are also important in men’s clothing right now – such as Lifetime Collective’s men’s hoodie printed with rows of clothes pegs.

Hoodies will continue to be a trend for some time. But as the weather arms up fabric will get finer. The Harrington jacket (a kind of light-weight flight jacket popular in the 1970s) is making a come-back, probably because check or tartan traditionally used for its lining, is now big for shirts and other garments. "But, expect modern twists, such as the use of embroidery on the outer fabric", according to Michael H. of www.StartingaClothingLine.com

Hugo Boss ties currently include an elaborate and unjustified price tag as far as I'm concerned! The MD's seem to love the things though so each to their own
