Roberto Cavalli’s fashions are showcased at his flagship store on Madison Avenue in New York City.  The shop itself is a study in how to bring the most glamorous elements together without coming across as tacky.  Just as his fashions are famous for being loud and proud, so too is the interior of the boutique.  It has to be top-of-the-line to entice customers like Britney Spears and Petra Nemcova.

Celebs seem to be drawn to Roberto Cavalli’s fashions because of the heightened scale of the clothes.  Each item is immaculately created, with flourishes and embellishments that another designer would be unable to pull off.  Somehow, Cavalli is able to precariously balance the scales to create some of the most noticeable, and memorable, fashions.

As a designer, Roberto Cavalli has pushed himself further than most.  In addition to his wildly popular women’s wear, he has also designed for men and children.  In fact, his pieces extend into beachwear, lingerie, shoes, and even fragrances and eyewear.  His original foray into fashion was as a 30-year-old unknown in 1970 at the Salon for Pret-a-Porter. 

At this first show, Roberto Cavalli’s fashions immediately stood out.  He had created a new technique for printing on leather that drew a lot of attention.  He also created eye-catching patchwork patterns with denim that got the industry to take notice.  Only two years later he had opened his first shop, and the fashion-conscious celebrities of the time were quick to be seen in his designs.

Many of the celebrities who most admire Roberto Cavalli’s fashions are not shy about it.  Some of his big-name clients include:  Madonna, Christina Aguilera, Charlize Theron, Lenny Kravitz, Jennifer Lopez, Gwyneth Paltrow, Victoria Beckham, Lindsay Lohan, and Drew Barrymore, to name only a few.  In an industry that is so focused on what is new and innovative, it is refreshing to see how Robert Cavalli’s fashions have been able to remain on top for so many years. 

Even though his looks have remained fresh and new, from early on, Roberto Cavalli’s fashions implemented quite a bit of animal print.  The use of this element is still very prevalent in his designs and has become his signature.  Still, the designer finds new ideas everywhere around him.  He and his family travel all around the world, and it is said that he takes a digital camera wherever he goes so that he can document new sources of inspiration.
