Is It Truly Your Passion to Design Fashion?
The first question you need to ask yourself when determining if you should pursue a career in designer fashion is whether or not you truly have the drive it takes. This starts with a true desire to express your creativity through your fashion designs. You don’t have to be a great artist, as there are tools to help you create sketches; but you do need to have a vision that you want to convey through your styles. There is much to learn and to perfect when you decide to design fashion for a career, and the job will be much easier and more enjoyable when you truly love what you’re doing.
Can You Handle Criticism?
Even the biggest pros who design fashion find themselves at the mercy of the critics. It can be devastating to hear what other people have to say when they don’t understand or appreciate your designs. Those who want to succeed need to have a bit of a thick skin when it comes to criticism. Of course, that’s only part of the equation. Those who can do this while appealing to an audience may just have the talent needed to do the job correctly.
Are You Willing to Learn?

The thread that ties it all together, though, is the willingness to continually educate yourself.
